Owning a Home Business While Raising Small Children

Many women want to have a home business so they can be there to raise their children. This is a noble and worthy reason for wanting to have a home business. It works especially well when you have a passion for your business and become well known for your niche. What doesn’t work so well is having small children who constantly need your attention when you really need to get some work done.

Laying down the rules. The first and foremost thing that you must do when starting a home-based business is to lay down the rules governing your working schedule and play schedule. Don’t simply tell your children that you are busy for a particular part of the day, and you can’t be bothered. Also let them know when you have scheduled playtime. It gives your children something to look forward to each day, knowing that you are not going to work endless hours, but will have dedicated time with them as well. After all, if raising your own kids was one of the reasons for wanting a home business, then you shouldn’t forget that very important detail.

Working from home does not mean the end of childcare. Often times women who start a home business, or at least begin to think about starting one, assume that they will not need childcare any longer. Depending on what type of business you run, it is possible that childcare will still be a huge investment in your time and money. This is particularly true if your business requires that you meet with clients or have to schedule conference calls periodically. Nothing can be more detrimental to a serious conversation than a screaming child that can be heard by your customers. You don’t necessarily have to hide the fact that you work from home, but you do need to give a professional appearance. It just takes a little more effort to do that from home.

Creating work hours that improve productivity.

Sometimes working from home has many advantages. One of these advantages is the ability to tailor your work schedule to when it is convenient for you, and will allow you to be more productive. For instance, scores of work-at-home-moms find the evening hours their prime time to get work done. The kids are down for the night, your husband is busy reading the paper or watching his favorite TV show, and you have the solitude that you long for. Other moms may find it better to get up early in the morning to get some work done. Getting in some work before the rest of the house awakens can give you a real sense of accomplishment even before everyone else’s day begins. Flexibility is key to a work-at-home environment.

Your space, my space, your small child requires lots of attention. In many cases, your child will want to be with you even though you have to work. Designing a part of your workroom for your child is a good idea, if you plan it properly. Have a table where your child can draw, have a play telephone, and act as your little assistant. Just be sure to clearly convey the limitations of your child’s workspace and your workspace, so that your child does not get into your office supplies and other important materials.

Be thankful for your situation. Working from home is a dream for some women, and others have made that dream a reality. With so many advantages to owning your own home business, it is no wonder that the opportunity is attractive to millions of people. Keeping your priorities straight, learning to compromise, and being able to reflect on your awesome ability to work from home should help you remember to be thankful that you can work at home and raise your children at the same time. It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it!

Elements of Contemporary Design

Are you the type of person who loves mixed medium, sleek lines, and clean design (without clutter)? If so, you are the kind of person who should implement a contemporary interior decoration scheme.

This style came into existence in the late 20th century. Generally, it has emphasis on a few key color pieces while the others blend into the background. The edges are somewhat softer than most modernistic rooms – the entire feeling is inviting and warm.

Furniture

Always look for gentle curves with clean lines. The most common is an exposed metal or wood, and some blended mediums that work together (such as glass). Wood typically has a lighter variety and it features almost no detail or accent. Various metals such as chrome, nickel, and stainless steel are commonly used in this design. If you have gone to a few furniture malls, you will notice a lot of glass with stainless leg, or nickel and chrome framework displayed in the open shelves. It is not difficult to find these kinds of furniture in the market. The most common are bathroom accessories with a very stylish look.

When you want to incorporate wood into your design, you can look beyond coffee tables and utilize these wood surfaces in shelves, flower pots, or picture frames. If you started with a wood concept, try to carry it throughout the room for a more professional appearance.

Fabrics

These are “plain,” meaning they do not have too much pattern. In a contemporary room, solids are the best choice. If you are looking for some textural interest and visual to go with the fabric, you can try raw silk, linens or wool.

Lighting

Most decorating styles ignore the lighting element, but here it takes center stage. Light fixtures and lamps offer a lot of opportunities to show glass or metal. Also, lights are used to highlight the room’s focal point – where attention is needed.

Colors

Contemporary design has neutral based colors such as: blacks, whites, grays, tans, and soft creams. The real key here is the accent color. Remember you are trying to evoke a warm and vibrant feeling. Use these colors in varied ways from window treatments, furniture upholstery, throw rug, and wall color. Be creative and think of ways on how to draw attention.

Windows

Like the other elements, windows have to be simple. Straight lines without a lot of fuss will do. Your window treatments should also be without decorative touches.

Floor

Contemporary floors are a bit sexy and sleek. The old low pile carpets and hardwood materials work well. Today, there are newer flooring techniques available such as stone, polished concrete, and vinyl.

Accessories

If you feel that you need to add something, just make sure that it blends well with the other pieces. Contemporary scheme do not have a lot of room for extras, but if needed, it should emphasize structure and be streamlined.

The people who like contemporary design tend to have a more modern approach to art. They like simple things but with a trendy flair – this is evident in their wardrobe. The contemporary style design is comfortable, sleek, and clean. It is never rigid and harsh.

Contemporary Interior Decorating

The contemporary style of home decorating emphasizes the minimalist approach. We discuss what makes or breaks the contemporary style of home decor.

The most important thing to consider before you start decorating, or redecorating, your home or apartment, is what you like. What you want. Do not concern yourself with the current trends, that many home owners seem to follow like lemmings. The most important thing is that you are comfortable in your own home.

There are a few factors that you have to consider. Are you a business person, and will you be entertaining colleagues and bosses in your home? Or do you have a lot of friends whom you’ll be entertaining on a regular basis? Or do you prefer to keep yourself to yourself, with only an occasional friend stopping by? In each instance, you may want to decorate your home in different ways.

It’s not necessary to decorate your entire house in one single style – you can always use several different styles, one per room. It all depends on what works best for you.

Having said that, the Contemporary style of home decoration is currently popular, and like all other styles, it will never really go out of fashion.

The joy of the contemporary style is that it is a “no muss, no fuss” style. Clutter has given way to sparseness, in-your-face designs to a more subtle decor. Simpleness is the watchword.

The contemporary style extends to all aspects of a room: the walls, the floor, furniture, windows, and accessories.

The minimalist contemporary style eschews bold floral patterns such as you’d find in wallpaper, and replaces this with plain colors – shades of white. In this way, photos, paintings or other wall hangings will stand out the more. Also, the walls should not be overloaded with these wall hangings – to do so blunts the impact. It’s like the old cliche, “You can’t see the forest for the trees” or in this case, you can’t see the trees for the forest!

Simplicity must extend to the floors as well. Hardwood floors with their golden gleam add a warmth to every room, although in winter time they can be cool on the feet! Throw rugs in bright colors can add that necessary “je ne sais quois” to any room. If you like wall-to-wall carpeting, again, choose neutral colors – shades of white, once again to highlight the furniture that rests upon it.

Modern furniture is a question of simplicity, of sleekness. There’s no unnecessary ornamentation, Chairs and couches with metallic frames are ideal, although solid wood will never go out of style and will serve to complement a hardwood floor. Sleek occasional tables look nice, but don’t clutter every room with too much furniture. You want room to move around.

What about windows? It’s always nice to have sunshine pouring into your home, but sunlight does fade the color out of your furniture, paintings and carpet. If possible you should get windows with glass that filter out those harmful UV rays. Shutters or blinds made of wood or metal make a nice touch, and curtains or draperies in a neutral color add the finish.

Going for the contemporary look doesn’t have to be expensive. Indeed, since you’re going for the minimalist look, you can cut out quite a bit of furniture and save money that way! But the main thing is for you to be happy with your design – for you to feel that it is “livable.” With its emphasis on simplicity, contemporary home design could be just right for you.

Why Do We Need Insurance Quotes?

In the old days, collecting insurance quotes was not very common. The reason for that is simple; it is because there were not too many insurance companies with too many packages that can be very confusing. Now, with too many choices and alternatives for insurance, the only way for us to know which one is suitable for our condition but with the cheapest price is by collecting insurance quotes. By simply ask online for several quotes from several insurance companies, we can then freely compare those quotes and choose the one we want. However, what we also need to remember is that the cheapest is not necessary the one we have to choose. Anybody can put great words for promoting its products, and any companies can offer the cheapest prices. Besides comparing quotes, finding out more about the companies’ background is recommended.

Decorate Your Living Room The Contemporary Way

The living room is the most difficult room in the house to decorate, because most families…well..live in it! It has to be all things to all people. In the contemporary style, this effect is easy to achieve.

If you’re like most people, you and your family spend most of your time at home in the living room. That’s where you have the couch and chairs, the television and entertainment center, the bookcases and the ornaments. It’s the living room, therefore, that can be the most difficult room to decorate.

The essential item to remember when doing any kind of decorating is to have each room as livable as possible. If you have a lot of young children you won’t want a lot of breakable bric-a-brac in your living room. No matter how many times you impress upon them not to touch, there’s always a chance that they will touch, and break, your breakables. That’s one reason why the contemporary style of home decorating advocates having only a very few accessories placed around the room.

Another reason for having only a few accessories – from flower vases to statuettes to decorative cups or plates – is simply that the contemporary design style advocates minimalism. An absence of clutter. Not only does this make it easier to keep the room clean – no need to dust all your dust-collecting knick knacks – but it also makes the room look neater.

What is the focal point of the room? For most people, that’s usually the entertainment center – complete with large-screen TV, DVD player, CD player, and storage areas for DVDs and VHS tapes. However, contemporary design doesn’t insist that you have an entertainment center – so if you’re not into television don’t worry about it!

The principle behind decorating a room is to center everything around a focal point – whether that’s the entertainment center, a fireplace, or a lovely sofa. Of course in the living room you may well have a fireplace and an entertainment center, in which case you’d probably choose the entertainment center as the focal point.

Around the entertainment center you’ll have furniture. The traditional couch and two armchairs…and if you entertain a great deal perhaps another chair or two. But if you don’t entertain, don’t bother to get those extra chairs! They just add clutter. So does having three or four decorative pillows for each chair as well as for the couch. Simplicity is the watchword, let each piece of furniture speak for itself, don’t try to hide it or “dress” it.

Windows

Windows come in all shapes and sizes, and depending on how large they are can be that focal point of the room that we were talking about earlier. What is the size of your windows? In which direction do they face? (Do you have the sun streaming into the room in the morning, or in the afternoon?) And what is your view? Do you have a pleasant view across a greensward, or are you looking at someone else’s house across the street? Each of these factors determines whether you’ll decorate – or “dress” your windows for privacy, for light control, or to complete the design of your room. Whatever the purpose, the window “treatments,” as decorators call it, will be simple ane elegant, in the contemporary style.

Walls

It’s a given that light, solid colors are the best for walls – such colors make the room appear larger and brighter, and show off any and all wall hangings – from paintings to posters to masks – to best effect. Beige and white are the easiest colors to work with, and blend in well with the rest of the room.

Lighting

In contemporary interior design, the lighting comes not from a central fixture in the ceiling, but rather from stand alone lamps of elegant metallic design, and a few desk lamps – which can be in bright colors to add a splash to the room.

Balance

Leave yourself plenty of room in which to move around, and don’t overstuff your living room with furniture or decor that you don’t need. With contemporary design, simple is always best!
